Sarah Janks 28.09.2011

Sarah Janks’ modern, ready-to-wear wedding dresses are far from being ordinary.

Her dresses have timeless, classic shapes that she gives a modern twist to, with attention to detail and expert cutting. Her debut collection, Tempus, was inspired by the memories of a bygone era, with all the time in the world devoted to romance.

Handcrafted embellishments, the finest fabrics, and—get this—a patented corseted powermesh lining come together to produce sturdy and fashionable gowns. The collection ranges from show-stopping princess ball gowns to floaty dresses in barely-there chiffons, giving you a wide array of choices.

But who is Sarah Janks? She is a pattern cutter by trade who was raised in South Africa, where she graduated from the London International School of Fashion with honours. She was a finalist in the Smirnoff International Student Fashion Competition twice, and in 1997 represented South Africa in London.

She then worked for two of the top couturiers in South Africa and apprenticed with Prince William’s uniform makers in London. This was a permanent move for Sarah; for almost a decade, she worked in London with labels such as Roland Mouret, Jenny Packham, Hamish Morrow, and Jonathan Saunders. Today, she has relocated to sunny Sydney, Australia to spend time with family.

Now, take a peek at some of the pieces from the Sarah Janks Collection at White Gallery 2011 in London…

Mariana Hardwick Bridal Collections 14.09.2011

Mariana Hardwick wedding dresses equals love at first sight.

The picture of feminine energy, beauty, and opulent elegance, they are everything a girl could want on the most memorable day of her life.

Mariana Hardwick is a seasoned designer who takes a fashion approach to designing the modern wedding dress. She has won five of Australia’s Fashion Industry Awards for her uncanny ability to combine ever-changing trends with classic elements.

In the 1970s, when Mariana was owner of “the Garb Shop”, she found that women were just starting to discover their own sense of self and style. Suddenly, there was a demand for alternative clothing with a timeless appeal, using high-quality goods. Inspired by dresses from the Victorian and Edwardian periods to the 1920s, she searched the world for rich antique silks and laces and created her collections from these lavish materials. And so, in 1982, Mariana Hardwick was launched as the first contemporary bridal wear line in Australia.

Mariana Hardwick maintains its position at the top of the industry by being in tune with the evolution of contemporary design and responding promptly to the needs of her clientele.

Here are just some of our favorites from her collections. Browse her shop for the complete line of bridal wear.
