Scrumptious DIY Candied Walnuts

Candied walnuts are seriously delicious, so today we’ve created an easy to follow candied walnut wedding favor tutorial.

What You’ll Need

1 Pound Walnut Halves. If you like your walnuts extra sugary, cut down on the amount of nuts.

1 Cup White Sugar

2 Teaspoons Ground Cinnamon

1/4 Teaspoon Salt

6 Tablespoons Milk

1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F {175 degrees C}.

Spread walnuts on a baking sheet in a single layer.

Roast walnuts for approximately 8-10 minutes or until they start to turn brown. Remove from oven.

While your walnuts are roasting, stir together sugar, cinnamon, salt and milk in a saucepan.

Cook over medium to high heat for 8 minutes or until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage of 236 degrees F {113 degrees C} or starts caramelizing.

Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla.

Add walnuts to syrup mixture and stir to coat.

Spoon walnuts onto baking paper and separate with a fork.

Cool and store in airtight container.

Place desired amount of candied walnuts into clear cello bags and seal. We used clear cello bags with self seal lips, but you could also just staple them shut.

Next, cut out a piece of decorative paper to cover the top of the bag.

Staple decorative paper onto bag.

Tie a ribbon around the paper to hide staples and then add a pretty tag.

These wedding favors only took about 20 minutes to make, but are bound to be a hit because they’re just so darn tasty and smell amazing too.

Handmade Favors

With more couples seeking different ways to trim their budgets, DIY wedding favors have become the “in” thing.

Potted Plants: Gifting potted plants is a top eco-friendly choice this year. Start by buying potted flowering plants from your local nursery and consider decorating the pots with your wedding colors, stencil a design of your married name and wedding date, or provide a special and meaningful quote. The beauty of this favor is that if properly cared for, the plants will be a daily reminder of your special day for years to come.

Handmade Treats: Who doesn’t love a good cookie, brownie or cupcake? Is there a special family recipe that has been passed down for generations that you could share? Package the treats in colored cellophane and tiny bows that match your wedding colors for a perfect presentation.

Candles: Candles are always a classy wedding favor. Though simple to make yourself, save time by buying them wholesale for close to the same price as you would pay for materials. Wrap the candles in pretty tulle and ribbons and consider doubling their use as table centerpieces at your reception.

Personalized chocolates or candies: Instead of forking out a chunk of your budget on custom printed candy wrappers, buy sweet treats in bulk like Hershey Kisses, M&Ms or one of your favorites. Package the treats in organza bags and attach a sweet message for a personalized touch.

Remember to keep your story and interests as a couple in mind, too. Did you initially meet at the local coffee shop? Consider decorating and customizing mugs with your monogram. The options are endless.
