Turks & Caicos Wedding {Michelle + J.P}

Today’s destination wedding photos are filled with so many lovely beach-wedding ideas, it’s hard to look away. Diana M. Lott Photography shot this stunning affair.

Michelle and J.P were married in an intimate affair with 25 guests in Turks & Caicos. Impressively the adorable pair took care of all the wedding planning themselves. Michelle explained, “We had a fairly small budget for wedding planning since most of it was going towards our photographer and the location itself, so I decided that we would just plan it ourselves.”

But for the decor and venue styling, the couple did enlist some help. “We ended up hiring a decorator located in Turks & Caicos – Tropical Destination Management. They arranged all the décor and flowers at the wedding and ceremony. We had the ceremony on the beach, just down from our [reception] villa. We had a two-pole arch with sheer fabric and white bougainvillea {the local flower} and white folding, padded, chairs for the guests. The aisle was marked with tiki torches and conch shells filled with flowers.”

The bride wore a stunning BCBG tiered lace and tulle dress. “I knew that I didn’t want to be in a traditional wedding dress for a beach wedding, nor was it my style.”

The wedding colors of choice were aqua, white, and gray. Michelle explained, “We weren’t too sure of what color theme to have for our wedding, so we let it pick us. One of the first prop items on the list to buy was parasols. Of the parasols we were looking at, we decided to go with aqua. Once we received them, I bought matching ribbon and paper, but realized I needed an accent color besides white to make it a little more sophisticated. [We picked] gray, which worked perfectly.”

The couple chose two adorable wedding themes, starfish and the word ‘taken’. Michelle explained the meaning behind the word, “When J.P. was young, he saw his grandfather’s necklace, which said ‘taken’. He asked, what does that mean? His grandfather responded, ‘If any woman ever gets too close to me, she’ll know I’m taken.’ We had it engraved in our rings, ring dish, put on the programs and menus, and I made a banner.”

The couple chose fun passport wedding invitations. “A friend of mine had suggested doing a passport invitation which led us to an airline-ticket-looking invitation. J.P. found a vendor on etsy.com that would customize and print it for us, Ellas Paper. We ended up going with mint and pink and black type with a starfish in the background. We had an informational card printed as well and also included a map of the island with the invitation.”

Michelle and J.P hand-wrote all their escort cards, which we think is a super charming wedding idea. “We had gone to a wedding where the bride had written personal notes to each of her guests and thought that was such a nice touch. I went to Papersource and bought gray envelopes and threaded ribbon through a white postcard and hand-stamped the guests name on the front. We split writing the cards down the middle. If J.P’s best friend was coming, I wrote to his best friend and he wrote to that friend’s wife. We put the table assignment on the back of the card. We strung the personal notes on twine and clipped them with clothespins that had wood hearts painted in our color scheme.”

The gorgeous centerpieces were all about the beach. “We rented our main centerpieces which were large hurricanes with sand and a candle inside. We brought down the rest. Loose shells scattered around the hurricane.”

Wedding cupcakes were chosen over a wedding cake. “I love cupcakes, so we had a local baker make some…Red Velvet and Lemon. And we got a large cupcake made for us. We had cute little cake toppers made of wood, painted like our outfits, purchased from etsy.com by Fancie Fannie’s Bridal. I also made toothpick cake toppers in aqua and gray of sand dollars.”
