Museum of Appalachia Wedding {Jessica + Sean}

Here’s how to spruce up your wedding, take a leaf out of this couples book.

Jessica and Sean wed at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, followed by their reception at the Museum of Appalachia in Tennessee, United States.

We love that this southern wedding was dripping with handmade and personalized details including handmade bridesmaids dresses in vintage patterns, a quilt-square guestbook, tea-stained place cards from Etsy, wood burn signs handmade by the groom, personalized cufflinks with initials for the groom and groomsmen, and antique china the couple collected at rummage sales and antique stores over the course of their engagement. The couple even found a plate in the same pattern owned by the groom’s grandmother – and that plate was for his mother on their wedding day.

A lace doily owned by Jessica’s great-grandmother was wrapped around her lush bouquet.

The couple chose a fun colour scheme that incorporated all colours. “We wanted a spring feel, so every colour was acceptable! We used white peonies for the bridesmaid bouquets and pink peonies for me. At the reception we decorated with wild flowers. The girls got to pick out their own design for their dresses, so they could reflect their personality,” says Jessica.

The stunning wedding cake was made by a friend, Charlotte Click, who was also the mother of one of the bridesmaids.

What made your wedding unique?

“All the little touches, DIY projects throughout, and we played Bingo and learned a line dance! We wanted our guests to leave feeling like they had a fun time, and not checking their watch every 5 minutes to see if it were time to go yet.”

What was your biggest challenge?

“Finding time to DIY during our 5-month engagement. It’s challenging to DIY so many things, and live your life too, but I wouldn’t change a thing.”

What was your favourite moment?

“The entire day was perfect – I remember so many details about it and really enjoyed laughing and spending time with our families in one place. I think my favorite would have to be the enormous hailstorm that came right before we were supposed to walk down the aisle. The entire day was gorgeous, the perfect temperature, with a perfect breeze. The entire wedding party (including parents and grandparents) were gathered in the fellowship hall of the tiny chapel waiting to go outside and upstairs to the ceremony and then the hail started. We had just prayed as a group for the ceremony and for our marriage and well, God gave me my big entrance. It was great! It only last a few minutes, and gave me some time alone with my daddy before the ceremony. It is one part of the day that I will never forget and it will always bring a smile to my face!”

What’s your advice?

“Make lists, and don’t be afraid to ask for help! If you aren’t a planner yourself (I am) and have it in your budget, have an event coordinator hired. It will give you someone to bounce ideas off of or someone to get things done for you. If you want to do it yourself, just make sure you take breaks and don’t let yourself get overwhelmed.

I used Etsy for things that I didn’t have time to create or didn’t have the ability to. It was great! We custom ordered our bridesmaid dresses (each bridesmaid and the flower girl picked out their own design), our just married banner, photobooth banner, and our favor jars of jam.”

Massive congratulations to the gorgeous couple and thank you for sharing your wedding pictures and story with One Stylish Bride.
