Centennial Parklands Wedding {Katie + Jack}25.04.2012

We’re yet to meet a hip, vintage, super chic Australian wedding that we didn’t like. This Sydney wedding wowed us with its super simple, yet wonderfully chic vintage aesthetic.

Katie and Jack wed in a beautiful morning ceremony followed by a lunch reception at Centennial Parklands Restaurant in Sydney, Australia.

This wedding is full of so many stellar details – vintage attire, fun centerpieces, and simple elegant wedding cakes. We especially love that the couple chose a festive colour combination. Katie explains, “A wedding is a day of celebration and I wanted the colour scheme to reflect that, so instead of a few muted colours, we chose to incorporate a range of bright colours into our day. We mainly used bright blues, oranges and yellows.”

Katie chose to design her own wedding dress. “I had known for a long while that I wanted a very simple wedding dress, and so I decided to design my dress myself. I was then lucky enough to have my minister’s wife make the dress exactly as I had always envisioned it!”

“We threw a lot of traditions out the window so that our wedding better reflected our personalities. We both have two left feet, so to save ourselves the embarrassment; we didn’t have a first dance. We are both tea drinkers, so we had tea at the cutting of the cake instead of champagne,” says Katie.

“I tried to DIY as many details as possible, and so I created all the invitations, bouquets, orders of service, ribbon wands, menus, table numbers, seating chart, centerpieces, as well as many other details.”

More from the gorgeous bride:

What was your biggest challenge?

“One of the biggest challenges I faced during the planning process was indecisiveness. There is so much beautiful wedding inspiration out there. I almost wanted to plan ten different weddings so I could incorporate all the ideas I adored.”

What was your favorite moment?

“My favourite part of the wedding was definitely the ceremony, where we made our promise to love and cherish one another for our whole lives. It is such a terrifying yet exhilarating thing to do. One of my favourite moments was when our minister cracked a joke at the beginning of the ceremony – it really lightened the mood and reminded us to just relax and enjoy ourselves.”

What’s your advice?

“My advice to brides planning their wedding is to spend less time dreaming and more time doing. It’s a lot of fun to dream up wonderful wedding ideas, but it all goes to waste if there’s no time or energy to make them a reality. Once you find an idea you love, go ahead and make it happen.”

Did you receive help from friends and family?

“We wanted to involve our friends and family as much as possible in our big day. We enlisted the help of friends for our wedding cars, the wedding dress, makeup, flower arranging, music, wedding cars, master of ceremonies. We are so grateful for the generosity of the people around us, who made our day so very personal.”

Congratulations Katie and Jack and thank you for sharing your utterly gorgeous wedding photos captured by Photography By Caspix.
