Wedding Reception Ideas

Rachael and Amon’s Fitzroy Wedding 31.03.2014

Tears of happiness, that’s how much we love this Melbourne wedding.

The stunning couple wed at the Good Shepherd Chapel where Rachael’s sister-in-law, Katie, sang ‘Fools Rush In’ as the bride walked down the aisle in a gown made by Melbourne couture designer Helen Manuel. Amon waited for her at the end of the aisle in a custom Cerulean Blue Ralph Lauren suit and black bow tie. The colourful bridesmaids picked their own dresses, while the groomsmen wore a floral print Paul Smith shirt and bow-tie and suits from their own closets. After the nuptials, the couple were whisked away in a friend’s 1975 black mustang convertible for photos.

Oli Sansom Weddings captured the charming wedding and commented, “The inspiration behind Rachael and Amon’s wedding came from their combined personality traits. The whole day mirrored the type of people that they are. Rachael being a whimsical creative type and Amon being a sophisticated traditionalist type, they wanted a wedding that felt both formal and informal at the same time.”

The lovely bride used her background in graphic design to design the silk-screened poster-style invitations, the reception decor and the overall styling for the day. She used a loosely applied floral aesthetic to achieve a little bit of cohesion in the bridal party, and let the colour do the rest of the talking.

The charming reception was held at the Fitzroy Town Hall, which encompassed both a formal and informal vibe. The bridal party decorated the steps of the Town Hall in colourful streamers as guests arrived and greeted guests with the couple’s favourite cocktails – the French 75 and the Cadillac Margarita.

The inside of the hall was adorned with unstructured bouquets of wildflowers in jars designed by florist Emily Bourne, while colourful fruit and vegetables were laid out on the tables to mimic a Dutch still-life painting. Table numbers and candles were a quick DIY project that involved painting white numbers on jars and taping parchment paper around.

As for the food, the couple chose a delicious tapas menu created by Sorella Foods. The menu including some of the couples favourite dishes like meatballs, mac & cheese, and meredith dairy goats cheese. To save a bit on catering costs, the couple also asked family and friends to make an array of delicious deserts and cakes.

Annie and Duncan’s Outdoor Mountain Wedding 03.02.2014

This tremendous wedding reminds us just how much we love outdoor weddings.

Gorgeous Annie and Duncan were married at God’s Mountain Estate in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. They chose this stunning location, as it’s where they became engaged over a year ago.

Lyndsay of Well, Hello Photography captured the day and recalled, “All told, this was a pretty amazing day from start to finish. Annie and Duncan are awesome people. They are nice, smart and talented. Annie even made her own wedding cake. Annie and Duncan worked hard to make their wedding stunning while still sticking to a modest budget.”

Personally we’re crazy obsessed with the pretty vintage feel of this wedding, as well as the breathtaking outdoor reception, the pastel colours, and the couples adorable pug.

99 Sudbury Wedding {Nicole + John} 30.12.2013

Rarely have we been so excited about a wedding, as we are about this lovely one.

Nicole and John were married at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church followed by their elegant reception at 99 Sudbury in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Andreas of Andreas Avdoulos Photography captured the wedding and recalls, “When I first met Nicole and John a few months before their wedding, I knew right away that we were the perfect match for each other. Their vision of an elegant and classy wedding without any pomp and circumstance came together perfectly at 99 Sudbury, their venue of choice for the reception. A Croatian band, and a band from Nova Scotia played live music until well past midnight.”

We seriously adore the elegance and grace of the bride and the breathtaking reception décor, which including amazing floral designs by Nous Design Group and pretty desserts by Truffle Cake & Pastry.
