Kirkland House Wedding {Steph + Mike} 02.05.2012

It doesn’t get much better than combining shades of pastels, handmade details, and a table loaded with cookies.

Steph and Mike got hitched at Kirkland House, Ladner, British Columbia, Canada. Steph recalls, “People really loved being able to use so much of the Kirkland House grounds for lounging and games. Since there were over 220 folks attending, I wanted everyone to be able to find interesting areas to socialize – pond lounge, stump lounge, bar hightop table lounge, dining room table, yellow mini table, picnic tables, photobooth, gazebo bar etc. Although this wedding was a lot of work, it was worth every second. We’re still hearing how much people enjoyed all the details of our wedding. The neat part as well was that, although we weren’t able to spend much time with everyone individually, through the details, everyone left knowing us a little bit better. The personal touches really do leave a lasting impression.”

Steph explained just how many hours it took to create that lasting impression, “6 days to put together all the pieces on site, 1 year to collect and make odds and ends, 12 truckloads to drop everything off, and 2.5 hours to take everything down.”

Steph wore a stunning Melissa Sweet “Mila” wedding dress, which was graciously gifted to her by her dear friend Carly Nelson. It was then altered by Jill MacKinnon located in Ladner, British Columbia, Canada.

All the incredible details were captured by Meghan + Tanya from Sweet Heirloom Photography, who had this to say, “The majority of this wedding was DIY. The list truly does go on and on. Steph did an outstanding job. From the bridal hairpieces and ceremony French door entrance to the ceremony altar and head table frame backdrop. There was no detail left untouched. Each centrepiece was different and beautifully unique.

We think that Steph and Mike’s wedding was truly the most detailed oriented wedding we have ever been to. They poured so much love and effort into every single area of their big day. It made shooting their wedding so much fun. We just ran around like kids in a candy store trying to capture everything.”

King Valley Golf Course Wedding {Shauna + Rob} 27.04.2012

This wedding looks wildly entertaining, with its fierce blue/green/white colour palette and all those kilts.

Shauna and Rob wed in Rob’s parents’ backyard in a tented ceremony. Guests parked 3km away at the reception site, King Valley Golf Course, and were shuttled to the ceremony site where they enjoyed cocktails and refreshments, including Pimm’s Cup. “We wanted our day to have a balance of simple elegance and relaxed charm,” says Shauna.

“A gift to my bridesmaids included satin robes of the peridot colour.”

The colour combination was inspired by a birthday gift. Shauna explains, “The inspiration for our day came from a sapphire ring Rob had bought for my birthday in our second year of university. I had always imagined that it would be my ‘something blue’ on our wedding day.

Over the years, (nearly 8 years since that birthday) the ring has sadly been misplaced, but I still love this bold shade of blue and still wanted it to be my ‘something blue’ on our wedding day. I even dyed my ivory satin wedding shoes to the [shade of] blue.

The gemstones we chose were Sapphire and Peridot. [Peridot is an] August stone, and the month of our wedding.

Hailey, at Final Touches was a great source for bringing our inspiration to a reality. The striking blue was balanced out by softer shades of peridot green, and ivory.”

Shauna and Rob also draw from heritage for their wedding inspiration. “When planning the wedding, Rob and I wanted to celebrate his Scottish heritage and that he and his groomsmen would be wearing kilts. The blue in his Clan’s tartan created a clever mix and proved to provide us with lots of inspiration,” says Shauna.

“French Macarons were the peridot green (chocolate mint) and ivory (sesame flavor) from Ruelo Bakery.”

Saddlerock Ranch Wedding {Irene + Aaron} 18.04.2012

In our world, this wedding reigns as queen.

Irene and Aaron are high school sweethearts that dated for an impressive ten years. They wed at breathtaking Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu wine country, California. A venue that is quite literally a zoo; it’s full of amazing animals like zebras and emus.

The couple chose the venue because of their love for nature. Irene explains, “We got engaged in Napa, so we wanted to run with something that emphasized the outdoors and nature. Despite growing up in LA, we both attended college on the East Coast and learned to appreciate any rare sunshine and warmth that came our way – the second we saw Saddlerock, we knew that this would be the perfect place to share with our close friends and family, and emphasize our love for the outdoors and sun.”

Aaron and Irene chose to have a private moment before the ceremony, so they decided to do a first look.

The duo followed their first look by saying their vows in a beautiful field.

“Some of our groomsmen are amazing singers (although shy) – they serenaded my bridesmaids as they walked down the aisle, and also sang when my dad and I walked down the aisle. To see some of our closest friends pull out all the stops for us was so wonderful and special to us.”

“The ring bearer walked down the aisle with a sign that said, ‘Run, Aaron, Run’ he was adorable and obviously had no idea what was going on, and dropped the sign before getting to the end, but the guests loved it.”

The reception was held under the trees, which had crystal chandeliers and lights hanging from the branches. Irene explains how the styling was executed by her planner, Amanda Auer, “She did a great job with monogramming details and keeping everything consistent, with the dance floor, bar menu, and everything else – so consistent, that people were amazed by how classy the beer pong looked (with monogrammed cups and tables). The signature drink menu was gorgeously done, as well as the directional signs for the guests – small details that were amazingly photographed by Ian!”

Ian Grant Photography captured the day and commented, “While shooting portraits out in one of the many fields some local horses decided to come investigate what all the commotion was about. Simply sniffing around wasn’t enough and one of the horses decided to start munching on Irene’s gorgeous dress! We all had a good laugh for a while with that one – a new wedding first.”

And, finally, thank you to the lovely couple for sharing your wedding photos and story with One Stylish Bride.
