Today’s real wedding is an English real wedding. The stunning couple, Anita and Martin, are both leading newspaper journalists for the Telegraph and Express. They held their elegant wedding in North Yorkshire, which was photographed by the lovely Ian West and the equally lovely Julia Ford of Modern Photography.
We found the reception venue first – Newburgh Priory in Coxwold, North Yorks – and then the church, Our Lady and St Benedict in Ampleforth. I had a phobia about walking down an aisle in a huge church with everyone staring at me so I couldn’t believe my luck when I found the church – it was so tiny that the aisle was only about 10 feet long.

The dress was vintage lace from Lusan Mandongus.

For the table centres I went for vibrant lime greens, hot pinks and bright purples – serena gerberas, roses and orchids. I also fell in love with these bright pink butterflies from VV Rouleaux which I stuck in the middle. The bright colours didn’t look quite right for the church so I toned the bouquet and the pew-ends down to slightly paler shades.
The wedding had little bits of us to make it personal – Indian-inspired touches in the decor because I’m half-Indian, newspaper front pages for the table names because we’re both reporters.

So my first phobia was walking down the aisle, and my second was the first dance. Can there be anything more cringeworthy? So we hit on the perfect solution. We’d already chosen the entertainment – the completely, utterly awesome Chinese Elvis (just check out his website, that’s hours of entertainment in itself). The first dance was his suggestion – the DJ began playing I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, everyone assumed it was a record, and then Chinese Elvis suddenly popped up from nowhere and began serenading everyone. It ended in a big singalong. There’s a way to deflect attention from yourself!

Congratulations Anita and Martin. Thank you Julia for sharing these beautiful wedding photos.
