Be My Bridesmaid {diy card}

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I am constantly blown away by the work of Anna Bond at Rifle Design studio in the USA, very original. I recently saw these cute bridesmaid invitations she created; such a lovely idea and way to ask “will you be my bridesmaid ?” I really like the way that they unfold and introduce all the selected bridesmaids to each other.

Required items:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler

Anna’s complete DIY tutorial can be viewed at Once Wed.

“Will You Be My Bridesmaid”? Pretty Please!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Above image via Whitebox Weddings

Asking someone to be your bridesmaid is a big deal because you’re asking that person to take on numerous responsibilities regarding your wedding day and also showing that person how important they are to you. While most bridesmaids will be over the moon that you’ve thought of them, why not suprise them and make them feel extra special by getting creative! Below are some awesome ideas to help you ask those close to you to be your maids!

Card & Poem

One fantastic idea is to buy or make a card and write a suitable poem inside. Below are some sample poems that you could write within a card.

POEM 1

Through the in’s and out’s
And thick and thin
No matter what’s happened
There you’ve been

You smile when I need it
and listen when I grieve,
You hug me when I cry
and blow boogers on your sleeve

I treasure you friend
More than diamonds or gold,
and I promise I will
when we’re saggy and old

So please stand by my side
when I say “I DO”
for I would’nt be me
without a friend like you

POEM 2

The day, the dress
The bride, the groom
The joy, the tears
Will all come so soon

Professing true love
To my husband-to-be
With family and friends
All watching me

I hope the sun will
Be shining down,
Keep your fingers crossed
That I’ll fit in my gown…

But there’s just one more thing
that there needs to be…
and that’s to have you
Standing with me!

Will you be my bridesmaid?

POEM 3

You have always been there, more than just a friend.
You know just who I am and everywhere I’ve been.

You’re the one who I can turn to, any hour of the day.
Seems, I only have to think of you and you’ll be on your way.

No matter where life takes me, no matter where I roam.
When I’m with you my friend, my heart feels right at home.

So on my wedding day, I will need you more than ever.
Please be my maid of honor now…. and my friend forever.

Cookies

I also love the idea of asking “will you be my bridesmaid” with a fun and yummy bridesmaid dress cookie. The below Weddingish cookies are embellished with such beautiful details i.e. check out the funky fabric black belt and the strand of pearls. The cookies are hand-decorated and can be personalized to have anything you wish printed on the front i.e. will you be my bridesmaid, Maid of Honor etc.

Mismatched Bridesmaids

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Wow this is taking mismatched bridesmaid dresses to the max, but it works! The brides mother made all 10 of the bridesmaid dresses from a vintage 1950s Vogue pattern. Pretty impressive!

My concern with this idea is that the bridesmaids may end up looking like guests that are being photographed with you, opposed to bridesmaids (if god forbid they put down their bouquets). I suppose the best way to get around this, is to still have some of the bridesmaid dresses matching. Alternatively, have all your maids in one colour and have them wear different styles of dresses.  Anyone thinking of doing this or done this?

There are tones of bridesmaid dress designers out there, but my current favorite has got to be Alvina Valenta. I love Alvina Valenta bridesmaid dresses because they come in an abundance of colors and lush comfy fabrics. The good news is that the bridesmaid dresses are substantially less expensive than the bridal gowns, with most ranging between $150 to $300 retail which qualify them as relatively inexpensive bridesmaid dresses. Alternatively, there are online shops offering close replicas of some of the designs for substantially less, but be warned that the quality may be lacking!

My all time favorite is the above pictured black chiffon A-line knee-length formal bridesmaid dress; it’s to die for!
